SpotLog sync service

The SpotLog sync service allows you to sync your SpotLog data to the SpotLog server as a backup and to sync data between multiple devices.

I have to charge for this service as it takes capacity on the server and sooner or later will require me to pay for more server capacity.  The charge will also pay for the upgrade of the site to https to provide a more secure service.

You can purchase the service in two ways:

    1 Month service

  • The 1 month option allows you to access the service for 1 month from date of purchase.
  • This option costs £1.
  • At the end of the month, your data will be deleted from the server.
  • This option is suitable for trial use or one-time transfer of data between devices

    Lifetime service

  • The lifetime service option costs £5 and will give you use of the sync service for as long as you use SpotLog and the service is available.
  • "Lifetime" means as long as you use SpotLog and as long as the SpotLog sync service is available.
  • I cannot make any guarantees as to how long the service will be available, it is my intention that it will be available as long as people are using it.  If it becomes necessary to discontinue the SpotLog sync service, I will give as much notice to users as I can.
  • The sync service may be withdrawn at any time if for any reason it cannot be continued.  See above, it is intended to make the service available as long as people are using it.

Please note that if you contribute data or updates to the SpotLog database, you are welcome to have a sync key for free: please contact mark@rail3d.net

Data security and privacy

Data syncd between the app and the server is not encrypted or secured on the server. While your data is not published, it would not be hard for someone who could guess (or otherwise discover) your SyncKey to access your data on the server. Because the data is not encrypted, an interceptor, eg someone eavesdropping on public wi-fi, can access your synckey and therefore your spotlog data.

Since the data is simply historical records of trains seen, it is not particularly sensitive, although please note it does include data of when and where you have been spotting, it may also include in your location data personal locations (eg "My Home"). Anything you write in the notes fields will also be included in the syncd data.

Pay for the SpotLog sync service

I have read and accept the above conditions, including the section on data privacy.
