January 17th Brian and Julian plan a 9 mile, figure-of-eight walk centred on Hawkhurst which was once the headquarters of a notorious gang of 18th century smugglers who spread fear throughout Kent and beyond.
January 31st Chris and Christina will take us on a ramble in the Borough Green / Wrotham area of West Kent.
February 21st This half day option is a walk from Uckfield car park, East Sussex, with Peter and Margaret. through Buxted Park (may see some deer) to Buxted, about half a mile or more of road walking, then back through Buxted Park again. The bit through the park is almost guaranteed to be very muddy. 5 miles.
February 21st The full day walk with Charles and Sally will be a figure of 8 route is on the secluded southern face of the North Downs, north of Maidstone: we plan to explore the Hucking estate, recently bought by the Woodland Trust. We will also walk along part of the North Downs Way and explore the remains of Thurnham Castle, There are wonderful sweeping views of the Greensand Ridge and the Weald.
March 21st Charles and Martin will help us to explore the woodland and orchards of the high weald area of Kent with views over the surrounding countryside
April 18th This walk of about 10 – 11 miles in the area of the Greensand Ridge near Toys Hill. Chris and Steve say it is a great area in springtime with, hopefully, masses of birds and wild flowers.
Join a morning, half day, walk in South West Sussex which will provide a wealth of historic interest (plus some spectacular views, of the sea and the Weald). We will include the Jack and Jill windmills, above Clayton village. Clayton Church contains interesting mediaeval frescoes and Wolstenbury Hill earthworks date make to prehistoric times.
Starting from Shorne Woods Country Park, where we may see late bluebells, this 10 - 11 mile walk passes through the village of Cobham (Kent) and into some lovely countryside around Lower Luddesdown. The return path takes us past Lord Darnley’s unused mausoleum, once a sad vandalised sight, now restored to its former glory with a £4.9 million lottery grant.
Bank Holiday Monday For this morning, half day walk, we will be exploring the area near the medieval village of Fletching, East Sussex. If you get in touch we can give you details of where to meet and you can enjoy the rolling farmland, historic church and (almost) the site of a famous fraud.
A serious view, an Elizabethan stately home, chalk down-land, fertile countryside and lunch in a classic Sussex village. This walk will be about 10miles long.
This 10 mile, circular walk, near Brighton, in Sussex starts high on the hills between the A27 and the sea. It follows part of the South Downs Way and winds back through the unspoilt valleys of Castle Hill National Nature Reserve.
Enjoy the different aspects of Sussex scenery - countryside, farmland, woodland, waterside - and walk underneath a famous historical viaduct (a must for photographers). 11-12 miles, with refreshment en route, a lunch stop in Balcombe village and a short tea/ice-cream stop at Ardingly Reservoir.
Come to Speldhurst, near Tunbridge Wells for an 11 miler. This walk will be around the attractive area of the high weald. There is a mixture of woodland and fields and we may walk beside the upper reaches of the River Medway. There are many attractive views across the surrounding countryside and Ashdown Forest.
Today’s walk will be from Cowden to Ashurst , West Kent, and back (probably by train). We will pass an ancient hammer pond, along a Roman road and passed Bolebrook Castle, a restored C16th hunting lodge, through a mixture of farm and woodland.
Come to the Ashdown Forest, for an opportunity to enjoy the Autumn colours of the beech trees there.
This Bonfire Special will be a short, afternoon walk near to Sevenoaks followed by a meal and fireworks.
