Timetable

The Timetable feature is used to set a timetable for trains.

Basic Timetables

Timetables are linked to a route, and specify the times that trains depart from specified points.

To setup a timetable

• Select the train you want to create/edit a timetable for
• Select "Edit Timetable" from the "Train" menu  (as above)
• Enter one or more timetable points in the edit box.  Timetable points consist of a location (ie the location name in a stop, reverse etc) and a time (seperated by space or tabs)
• Click "OK" in the timetable dialog

The train will now run to the specified location, stop at that point and wait until the specified time before it continues.

• You can enter multiple times against a location,  eg " Midtown  10:05   12:05    14:05"

Regular Timetables

If you have a regular (eg hourly) timetable, you won't want to enter every time (eg 09:10 10:10 11:10 etc).  You can enter a wildcard for the hour to specify "every hour":

Late running trains

Normally a train waits until the next timetable time, so (in the above example) a train arriving at "Kautenbach" between 10:10 and 10:53 will wait until 10:53 to depart.

Obviously, sometimes trains run late.  To handle this, Rail3D has a "Timetable window" which specified the number of minutes late a train may be.  The "Timetable window" is specifed in the layout properties, and be defualt is 5 minutes.

Thus if the timetable specifies  *:15 a train arriving up to *:20 will leave on the *:15 timetable time.

Timetable time *:15 / window =5 minutes

You can specify a different "Window" for a specific time in the timetable by adding a window term to the timetable time,eg:

Midtown   10:10  11:10[30]

Route Changes

Note that timetables are linked to route names, so if a train's route changes, it will need a new timetable.

Other Features

• You can add "[up]" or "[dn]" to a time to specify that a time only applies to a specific direction.
• You can specify a range of hours, eg [10~14]:35, to specify a range of times (eg 10:35, 11:35, 12:35, 13:35 and 14:35).
• You can use "xx:" instead of "*:" if you prefer.
• You can specify a passing time by putting the time in "{}" eg "{10:05}" - in this case the train runs at a speed such that it will pass the specified point at the specified time
  
  
• If you have several trains running on the same route, they will depart at different times.  For example if you have a terminus with departure times  "*:10  *:40" and a train arrives at 09:45, it will get a departure time of 10:10.  If another train arrives at 10:00 (while the first train is waiting for 10:10) the second train will get the next departure time (10:40)
